Updated Statement from Feld Entertainment, Inc., Regarding Hair Hang Accident at Ringling Bros® in Providence, RI, on May 4, 2014

Ellenton, FL – May 5, 2014, 4:10 p.m. ET – During the 11 a.m. performance of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents LEGENDS on May 4, 2014, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI, there was an accident during the hair hang act, where nine performers were injured. All performers received immediate medical attention and were transported to a local hospital for further care.  The hospital has confirmed that two are in critical condition, three are in serious condition, three are in good condition and one performer has been treated and released.  None of the injuries are considered life threatening.

The accident is currently under review by both our company and outside authorities.  It has been determined that a carabiner in the rigging failed, however we do not know at this point why.  Determining why is critical to identifying the next step in this process.  The safety of our cast, staff and crew, as well as our guests, is our highest priority. We will continue to inspect all of our equipment on our touring shows, and we are replacing every carabiner on this unit before the next performance.

The 11 a.m. performance in Providence was stopped at the time of the accident.  Performances scheduled on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Monday, May 5, at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. have been cancelled.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents LEGENDS travels to Hartford, CT, on Tuesday, May 6, and performances there will proceed as scheduled from May 8-11.  The hair hang act will not be in the show, and other aerial acts will undergo a full safety inspection before performing.

On behalf of the entire Feld Entertainment family, we would like to thank the first responders for their swift action and the hospital staff for their ongoing care and concern for our performers.
