Sound Operations Manager
Ellenton, Florida - E-Verify | Full Time Florida Operations & Show Support — AudioParticipate as collaborative member of Sound team in the design, budget and build phases of new touring productions related to all audio and communications delivery elements of a live production/event. Ensure accurate drawings of all systems are current and within Vectorworks. Oversee production playback and digital console programming for both new and updated productions.
Provides oversight and training for all touring audio personnel to ensure conformance to established show standards and best practices. Serves as Best Practices Leader by coordinating and establishing standard methods, materials, and equipment for all audio elements of live touring productions. Assist with all in house productions as needed.
Essential Functions
- Conducts research and recommendations to the Creative Team on industry trends and equipment related to sound for live touring productions by staying abreast of current technologies and their applications.
- Analyze system designs for viability. Oversee Qlab playback programming and network logistics for implementation of design. Focus on optimization by exploring points of failure.
- Oversees and supports load-in and load-out of audio elements of new production during rehearsals. Maintains on-site programming support during rehearsal process and provides related support to other rehearsal hall events as needed.
- Program digital consoles (QL-1, DM7, etc) for touring productions at both the FOH and Monitor positions. Must be familiar with large format live mic mixing across lavalier, handheld, and wireless systems.
- Creates, obtains, and archives all documentation related to equipment on assigned projects. This includes signal flow diagrams, network schedules, cue sheets, and script updates.
- Travels to touring productions as needed for technical and training support related to sound production elements.
- Conducts operational and safety inspections during tour visits and reports related observational findings back to show management and Safety Department.
- Provides technical skills assessment when hiring new personnel for audio related positions.
- Program and oversee live show communications systems including wireless coordination and wired com trouble shooting.
- Responsible for accepting all other duties assigned by supervisors.
- Bachelor degree or higher in Technical Theater, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Recording Arts and/or Live Audio Arts program or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of practical Live Audio FOH Monitor Mixing experience on large format consoles for complex productions. Experience should include a variety of production types, styles, and events and in a variety of arenas, venues, and environments utilizing various sound system types and configurations. Must be well versed in large format high channel count professional wireless sound systems. Shure Axient, Sennheiser, Free Speak , and Radio Active Com.
- Minimum 5 years of management experience and/or experience as A1 or Department Head on a large scale, live touring production.
- Must have 5 years of large room tuning experience as a system / PA tech.
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
- Must be able to design and refine audio and electrical distribution systems. Must be familiar with electrical, pro-audio equipment, and sound system design types and their appropriate applications.
- Ability to specify audio equipment and develop related budget information that meets the creative needs of Show Designer and Producers.
- Ability to design and read schematics, signal flow charts, and block diagrams is required.
- Thorough understanding how sound propagates in defined physical spaces.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products; Proficiency with QLAB, Yamaha digital consoles, Ableton Live, Vectorworks, SMAART, Meyer MAPP, D&B Array Calc/R1, and manufacturer software platforms.
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships within a diverse work environment is required.
- The individual must be a self-starter and able to work well alone or with small to large groups of people and supervise and guide them when necessary.
