The Senior Tax Accountant will be an integral part of the tax team and will be primarily focused on federal, state & local tax compliance, including income tax, sales & use tax, property tax, and miscellaneous taxes. This includes achieving tax team and Company goals to timely and accurately complete all regulatory and reporting requirements for internal and external parties. This position reports directly to the domestic tax manager.
Essential Functions
- Federal, State & Local Income & Franchise Tax Compliance – prepare estimated tax payment and extension calculations, assist with making estimated payments and extension payments to tax authorities; prepare annual tax provision workbooks; gather data, prepare workpapers, prepare tax returns including associated schedules, forms, and statements; prepare tax return packages to be e-filed and mailed; prepare state apportionment workbook and analysis; ensure proper documentation of the Company’s filing methodologies and positions; work with external tax providers on tax automation that will improve the accuracy and efficiency of the tax filings; and assist with income and franchise tax related projects as needed.
- State & Local Sales & Use Tax Compliance – gather data, prepare workbooks, file returns prepared internally, review returns prepared externally by external providers; resolve and respond to correspondence from tax authorities; assist with government tax audits and private tax audits; assist with inquiries from external parties (vendors, etc.); reconcile general ledger accounts; assist with sales & use tax projects as needed; etc.
- Property Tax & Miscellaneous Tax Compliance – gather data, prepare workbooks that properly document the Company’s property tax methodologies and positions; prepare other miscellaneous filings; assist with property tax and other miscellaneous tax projects as needed.
- Keep up to date on current tax practices, technical issues, and changes in tax law to perform ongoing monthly review and analysis of all tax-related transactions and liabilities in the general ledger to ensure proper tax reporting of income, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
- Actively participate in planning, automating, and decision-making to ensure on-going process improvement.
- Perform moderately complex tax research, assist with tax planning analysis, and draft memos.
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) in Accounting or equivalent experience.
- Master’s Degree in Taxation strongly preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or candidate preferred
- 3-5 years of prior tax experience including domestic federal, state and local tax compliance in a public accounting firm or medium to large size company with multiple subsidiaries. Prior experience with multiple state sales tax and state income tax returns a plus. Knowledge of corporation taxation a plus. Understanding of ASC 740 and tax accounting a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Windows, and Adobe required.
- Experience with ERP software, tax provision software (OneSource Tax Provision), tax return preparation software (CorpTax) preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) required.
- Must be positive, professional, ethical, honest, and trustworthy. Must have ability to work closely with others and collaborate in a team environment.
- Must have strong organizational skills, be attentive to detail, be a self-starter, and be open to innovation and process improvements.
- Must be able to perform in a deadline driven environment.
